Whole Cottage Winter Opening: Special Rate for 1 – 8 guests
This year, at last, life seems to have returned to normal post-Covid, with a very busy visitor season nearly over and many of the delightful and essential aspects of island life operating once more. Due to Covid restrictions, the Bunkrooms changed to a group-only self-catering cottage and because this has been very popular with families and outdoor enthusiasts, we are offering exclusive use for the future, all the year round. For winter, we have a special rate from just one guest to eight guests, with the use of the whole cottage. Visit our special offers page to find out more.
Locally there have been a few exciting developments which are good news for both visitors and locals. A fantastic new café, The Lazy Cow and Farm Shop opened in the summer at Kintra serving light lunches and drinks. The Café is run by local crofter Sandra Power, serving a great menu at lunchtime and really good coffee and cakes, opening Thursday – Monday 10.30 am to 4 pm. At the moment Sandra is planning to open in November and December and depending on how it goes, into winter 2023 too. The Lazy Cow also sells their own excellent sausages, bacon etc from their own free range pigs as well as pickles and other local produce.
Our local pub, the Keel Row, which was in danger of permanent closure, has been rescued by a local business consortium and will be open from Thursday – Sunday during the winter for drinks, lunches, dinners and popular music nights. View the Keel Row opening times here
A new watersports facility has opened nearby at Bendoran, offering guided kayaking, sailing and kayak hire. Bendoran Watersports is not open in the winter but is highly recommended if visiting from spring 2023.
If you wish to leave the car at home, it is possible to travel by ferry and bus to the Bunkrooms, with several walks available locally and on Iona. Iona Abbey is open in the winter, Monday to Saturday 10 am – 4 pm (last entry 3.30 pm), paid entry.
The beautiful natural environment of the Ross of Mull and Iona is of course open all year and you will very likely have any beaches or coastline to yourself in the autumn and winter months. After an invigorating day in the open, the Bunkrooms is a very welcome retreat, with a cosy woodburning fire and all the facilities you need for a comfortable stay.
